Write-up From Tom:-

Jean, Joan, Malcolm and I set off early on Friday to do a 'medium' walk before the rest of the group arrived after work. We parked up in the National Trust car park and set off on a beautiful sunny afternoon through Fletcher's Wood and on to Stang End. Past Colwith Force, we picked up the Cumbria Way into Skelwith Bridge and then headed up to Loughrigg Tarn. We carried on past High Close and through Low Wood back to The Youth Hostel where the workers began to arrive for dinner. Most people chose to eat in the Hostel.

Saturday dawned bright and sunny; one group of four set off for Crinkle Crags and Bowfell while the majority joined Adam for a repeat of the Saturday walk last year to Skelwith Bridge and on to Tarn Hows. The midges were out in force and becoming a nuisance, so we found an ice-cream van to take our minds off them! Yew Tree Tarn was almost dry, and so were we after we climbed over Holme Fell! We meandered back via Hodge Close and the Three Shires Inn where four of us stopped for a much-needed drink; the hardy ones took a longer route back via the Britannia Inn. A short stroll to Chapel Stile or England's opening match against the USA on TV were the after-dinner options for most people at the end of another lovely day.

Sunday dawned grey and damp and after Adam had settled up, we set off through the quarries. It began to rain as we walked up onto Lingmoor Fell but we were lucky with the weather for elevenses and for lunch. We had only a glimpse of the spectacular views of the Langdale Fells and the surrounding peaks, but we found ample compensation in the refreshments at Brambles Cafe in Chapel Stile. Most of the party set off for home, but Jean, Joan and Malcolm stayed over until Monday to do a recce of the Place Fell walk scheduled for early July.

Overall, it was another great Elterwater weekend and our thanks go to Adam for organising it.
