Walk Details Spain April 2009
Sunday 26th April.
Started the day with sunshine, we set off from Bubion in a westerly direction dropping steeply down to a bridge over the river , by this time the clouds were beginning to build as we climbed steeply up the other side to meet a track contouring round the hill till we came to a sign for O Sel Ling Buddhists retreat, our destination. We climber steeply up the track till we came to a large prayer wheel, we stopped for lunch at this point, by now the weather had worsened it was cold and windy with sleet in the air r!!By this time the group were cold so we decided against going higher and retraced our steps part of the way, before descending down a steep path winding steeply to cross the river and then going to Pampaneira the village below ours where we continued the Ramblers tradition of tea and cakes before making our way back to Bubion.

Monday 27th April
The weather had cleared and we awoke to a lovely sunny day. We left Bubion, led by Tom and walked North to the village above Bubion, Capileira, after several wrong turns and much debating we arrived and had a cup of tea!!.We then walked north out of the village and picked up a track leading to the power station, stopping for lunch on the way. The views were super, after arriving at the power station we decided to continue along a mule track, which was climbing steeply, we decided we hadn't time to reach the top, so we retraced our steps, and returned by a different track back to Capileira, for another cup of tea, before returning to Bubion.

Tuesday 28th April
Another lovely day and another lovely walk again starting from our village, this time we headed in an easterly direction, led today by Rosemary and Elaine. We climbed over the shoulder of the hill dropping down to another village, Capilerilla, picking up a local footpath to Portugos from where we climbed up to a nature reserve, and waterfall. This was quite a climb and the thought of loosing all that height, and climbing again was too much for some of the group, so an alternative route, following a high level path back to Capileira was found, again ending in tea and cakes in the village.

Thursday 30th April
Today, another sunny one we drove 20k to Trevelez the highest village in Spain and walked from Trevelez northwards up the Western side of the Trevelez River. On our way we passed a memorial to two soldiers killed in the civil war, shortly after this spot we came across a horse and rider picking up provisions high up on the mountain path, we also met a South African chap who was returning, unable to find the path we were hoping to find, this on reflection was perhaps a good idea, as our way involved two river crossings, one of which looked impossible, as the river looked too deep and fast flowing, however after much deliberation we plucked up courage and all managed to cross with out any serious mishaps, returning to Trevelez on the eatern side of the river. Jeannette and Neil choosing to climb up to the Sieta Lagunas at 2944m a serious climb, only to find when they arrived an artic landscape, frozen Lagunas, and lots of snow!!. We all arrived back in Trevelez at the same time for a welcome cuppa, before driving back to Bubion.A very interesting day!!
