Grading:
E: Easier - Little height gain along generally level and good paths. Suitable for the novice, infirm, those recovering from injury and those who can't manage the walks they used to.
M: Moderate - Some height gain, generally follows good paths and avoids rough and pathless terrain.
I: Intermediate - Some, but not excessive height gain and may not follow defined paths on the ground. Terrain may be rough for some sections of the walk. Some ascents and descents may be steep.
H: Harder - Likelihood of considerable height gain and may contain a Grade 1 scramble. May not follow defined paths for long sections of the walk. Walker needs to be reasonably fit. There will be some steep ascents and descents.
D: Difficult - May contain some Grade 2 or 3 scramble, be awkward for those with a bad head for heights (some exposure) and is generally more demanding than the harder (H) walk.
Length of walk: Please note, the length does not affect the degree of difficulty of the walk, which refers to the technical ability required of the participant. However, the potential walker should judge their ability to complete the walk by looking at the grade of walk in conjunction with its length and an assessment of their own fitness as they perceive it.
